Academic Courses and Resources
Our mission is to teach, inspire, and encourage followers of Christ to serve God more effectively as Spirit-led leaders.
About
In 2009, Tim began serving as an ongoing Visiting Professor at the Myanmar Institute of Theology (MIT) in Yangon, Myanmar, where he has been teaching New Testament Theology one semester each year ever since. At the time, he was the only faculty member with a Ph.D. in New Testament Studies and one of very few—if any—New Testament scholars in the entire country of approximately 53 million people, about 3 million of whom were Christian at the time.
Today, while there are now a few dozen Ph.D. holders among Christian professors nationwide, Tim has played a crucial role during this extended period by helping to fill a very big hole among the faculty, while MIT has been slowly raising the academic level of its faculty members year by year.
Due to COVID-19, followed by the military coup and ongoing political instability in Myanmar, Tim was no longer able to teach at MIT in person. These circumstances required significant pivoting on the part of Faith, Hope, and Love Global Ministries. First, he transitioned to teaching New Testament Theology online for MIT students. Then, in 2022, he began serving in the Thai-Myanmar borderlands, two or three times annually, teaching refugees at Kawthoolei Hope Theological Seminary (KHTS), and conducting faculty workshops for teachers in the Bible schools located in the various refugee camps.
Over the past two decades, Tim has developed and taught several other academic courses in addition to New Testament Theology. These include exegetical Bible courses requiring the use of the Greek New Testament, such as Romans; Philippians; and Hebrews, James, and 1 Peter. He has also taught Christian Spirituality and Critical Reasoning and the Bible to Master of Divinity students in Myanmar and Thailand.
In 2026, he will be teaching The Spirit-Led Leader in French online to the Christian University in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to practical theology students. He is also developing a new course for Master of Theology students titled Pastoral Priorities and Practices in Spiritual Formation, which he will teach to 10 or so MIT students who will join him for an intensive academic program in Thailand this fall.
