Hope for Hopeless Times: Biblical and Spiritual Wisdom for the Oppressed

In this 29-minute presentation, Dr. Tim addresses four honest questions about suffering, God’s silence, and hope. Drawing from Scripture, he points to the peace and strength found in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, even in the midst of hardship.

What we Can Expect from God Now

This video is the start of an eight-part video series that features Dr. Tim reading his book chapter by chapter, along with additional weekly encouragement. Originally written to help believers live by faith during the COVID-19 crisis, its biblical insights speak to any season of uncertainty, hardship, and suffering.

How to Grow Spiritually in Difficult Times

Ever since February 1, 2021, Myanmar has been in chaos, falling in a downward spiral of violence and deterioration. So much of what was taken for granted–education, jobs, food, electricity, internet access, banking system, homes, safety, a future, and a whole way of life–is uncertain or lost altogether. How can Christians grow spiritually under such circumstances?

Biblical Reflections

These Biblical reflections were originally posted on Facebook and theSpirit-Led Leader blog, starting in February of 2021. Dr. Tim continues to post these reflections for the people of Myanmar and others around the world who are facing trying times.

Hope amid Hopelessness

What we can learn from refugees and those surviving in war zones.
Where does hope come from? …when you’ve lost so much and so many doors seem closed? …when you cannot imagine a bright future? …when opportunities that others have are not available to you? …when there are few signs that your circumstances are going to change for the better?…

Coping with Overwhelming Distress

Part Three: Be Hopeful
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked myself, full of frustration and distress over yet another report of abuse, exploitation, or horrific destruction of lives, “Where is God?” Yet, when I start spiraling downward in my mind and emotions, I have to remind myself that this line of thinking isn’t going to help me or anyone else…

Don’t Give Up!

Why Joseph refused to act like a victim

He was forcibly taken from the land of Canaan to Egypt, where his new master’s wife falsely accused him…

Spirit-Led Leadership

The teaching in this three day, online course for Doctor of Ministry students from the Myanmar Institute of Theology is an updated, expanded version of key elements from my book, The Spirit-Led Leader: Nine Leadership Practices and Soul Principles (Alban Institute, 2005). In it, I focus on how a Christian leader can grow spiritually and become more effective as a true spiritual leader in his or her church, school, family, and ministry. Each day consists of 3-6 hours of teaching, small group discussion, and Q&A. However, the three video recordings have been edited to provide the heart of the teaching in a more concise format.
